Kaash
Large-adjacent lizard (dragonborn barbarian), chaotic concussed
Ego Class 14
Hit Points 14 (mostly spite)
Speed 30 ft, directly at the problem
| STR | DEX | CON | INT | WIS | CHA |
| 17 +3 | 14 +2 | 14 +2 |
12 +1 | 9 −1 | 13 +1 |
Reckless Attack. Improves his own odds by letting the enemy hit him back too. This is the tactical masterplan of a creature with a Wisdom of 9.
Dishonorable Discharge. Ended a military career not through any lack of strength, but — per his own file — "a failure to stop." His proudest non-violent skill is gambling.
Breath Weapon (1/short rest). The mighty legacy of silver dragons, expressed as 2d6 of cold, once, then a nap.
DM's margin noteGenuinely the strongest fighter here, which is less a compliment to Kaash and more an indictment of the other four. Smart enough (INT 12) to form a plan, too unwise (WIS 9) to notice it's a bad one. Blew all 10 gold before the campaign started.
Threat High, to enemies and to the party's insurance premiums.

Quinn Wildwhisper
Small hermit (stout halfling druid), true withdrawn
Ego Class 15
Hit Points 9
Speed 25 ft (the party is already gone)
| STR | DEX | CON | INT | WIS | CHA |
| 10 +0 | 15 +2 | 12 +1 |
10 +0 | 16 +3 | 8 −1 |
Speaks With Plants (Preferentially). Charisma 8. Converses with flora because the fauna — including her own party — keep wandering off mid-sentence.
The Discovery. Uncovered a profound secret out in the wilds and has, several years later, still not assembled it into a sentence.
Goodberry. Her signature spell produces snacks. In a party of five, she is the snacks.
DM's margin noteActually terrifying in a fight — Entangle plus the party's best save DC can end an encounter single-handed. Off the battlefield she moves at 25 feet, focuses "slightly past you," and lists a dying woodland as her closest personal relationship. Highest impact, lowest word count.
Threat Severe (combat) · Negligible (small talk).

Sabriel Soulweaver
Small tragedy (fallen aasimar wizard), lawful annotated
Ego Class 11
Hit Points 7 (a rounding error)
Speed 30 ft, if unburdened by the spellbook
| STR | DEX | CON | INT | WIS | CHA |
| 8 −1 | 13 +1 | 13 +1 |
14 +2 | 11 +0 | 13 +1 |
Fragile. Seven hit points and Armor Class 11. Will shatter if perceived too intensely by an enemy, an ally, or a stiff drizzle.
"It Is Data." Narrates her own damnation in the third person and files it as research. No one asked for the notes.
Healing Hands (1/day). Restores hit points equal to her level. That number is one.
DM's margin noteHighest ceiling in the party and the lowest floor — Magic Missile deletes things, Shield keeps her breathing, and both run out by the second fight. Learned Find Familiar early, which is a very academic way to acquire a friend. Give her four levels and she runs the table; give her one goblin and she runs out of hit points.
Threat Extreme, in bursts of exactly two.
Power Rank · #4
Lucien
Medium feline (tabaxi rogue), lawful larcenous
Ego Class 17
Hit Points 10 (11 with the outfit)
Speed 30 ft — 60 ft once, then must sit and reflect
| STR | DEX | CON | INT | WIS | CHA |
| 8 −1 | 17 +3 | 14 +2 |
15 +2 | 13 +1 | 17 +3 |
Sneak Attack (conditional). Deals bonus damage only when an ally stands directly beside him. The lone cat burglar cannot, mechanically, be brave alone.
Trust-Fund Larceny. Steals compulsively while carrying the party's largest purse (25 gp). It's not survival. It's a hobby with a costume.
Feline Agility. Doubles his speed, then must spend a turn using zero feet of movement. Sprints dramatically, then sits.
DM's margin noteAll Charisma and tailoring, no spine (STR 8) and no self-sufficiency. Catalogues everything, contributes occasionally, and dresses "better than the situation requires" for a situation that mostly requires he open a jar. A rich boy cosplaying hardship next to a hermit with 5 gold and actual depth.
Threat To unlocked jewelry boxes. Not to goblins.
Power Rank · #5
Thokk Tunebreaker
Medium orc (charlatan bard), neutral opportunistic
Ego Class 12
Hit Points 12
Speed 30 ft, mostly sideways
Signature move being mean at people
| STR | DEX | CON | INT | WIS | CHA |
| 11 +0 | 13 +1 | 19 +4 |
10 +0 | 15 +2 | 15 +2 |
Vicious Mockery. His entire offensive spell list is insulting people until they feel bad. He is, functionally, the author of this document.
Outlasts, Never Wins. A Constitution of 19 devoted entirely to surviving fights he pointedly refuses to help win.
False Identity. Maintains a fabricated persona with full paperwork, because the true one — an orc who plays the lute and reads people "like sheet music" at an Intelligence of 10 — is somehow more embarrassing.
DM's margin noteBetrays orc and bard simultaneously: too soft-spoken for the horde, too tanky to be a proper glass-cannon musician. Carries more instruments than weapons and more scars than either — which tells you exactly how good he is at all three. Superb support, genuinely; put him last only because "makes everyone else better" is the polite way to say "cannot do it himself."
Threat Emotional. Bring a thick skin, not a shield.
Encounter · The Whole Party
The Party
Medium swarm of first-time adventurers, chaotic unaligned (still reading the rules)
Combined HP 52 (and one healing spell between them)
Group AC whatever the loudest player insists
Initiative rolled, recorded, forgotten, re-rolled
Rules Mastery consulted as a bonus action
| RULES | TACT | SNACKS | FOCUS | CHAOS | VIBES |
| 6 −2 | 8 −1 | 18 +4 |
7 −2 | 17 +3 | 15 +2 |
Splits the Party. At the first fork, side room, or unattended object, disperses in five directions at once. Reunites only for loot and snacks.
Consults the Manual (each turn). A single "wait — can I do that?" halts initiative for a full real-world minute. At least three of them are on the wrong page.
Ignores Own Character Sheet. Four of the five have darkvision; all five describe the room as "too dark." Someone lit a torch. Nobody can say who is holding it.
Diplomacy First. Will try to persuade, deceive, or befriend the one creature specifically built to be un-negotiable — then act personally betrayed when it attacks.
Loot Division (Recharge: Never). Takes twenty minutes to split 55 gold five ways. The fight that dropped it took eight.
DM's margin noteGenuinely — for a table of first-timers, this lot is doing great. The enthusiasm outruns the rules knowledge by a mile, which is exactly the correct ratio at level 1. They forget their own spells, misread their own sheets, and open negotiations with the furniture, and they are having an absurd amount of fun doing it. That is the entire game. I would not trade them. I would, however, like initiative to move faster than one real minute per turn.
Threat To the session's schedule, mostly. Redeeming feature: they don't yet know what they can't do, so they try everything.
Legendary · Final Entry
The Dungeon Master
Gargantuan enabler (homelab sysadmin), lawful over-engineered
Ego Class 17 (reader+writer on all five sheets)
Hit Points 3 (copies · offsite · encrypted)
Armor Class TLS 1.3 + WireGuard + reverse proxy
Uptime 99.9%, for five people
| STR | DEX | CON | INT | WIS | CHA |
| 11 +0 | 12 +1 | 15 +2 |
16 +3 | 8 −1 | 14 +2 |
Self-Hosting. Runs a free, open-source character app on a hand-compiled Meteor build — on Node 14, three years end-of-life — so five friends can roll dice behind Cloudflare, a VPN tunnel, and a Let's Encrypt certificate.
Disabled the Paywall. Located the one already-free thing in the entire stack and spent an evening making it freer.
The Great Harvest. Scraped 50,743 library nodes over a websocket, then wrote a custom ability-score filler by hand, to serve a level-1 game whose deadliest attack is currently "greataxe."
Lair Actions
On initiative count 20, the lair acts — though, in fairness, it was not built for this. A two-node Proxmox cluster with a quorum witness, a 35 TB RAID-Z2 array, a three-copy backup chain, and a full monitoring stack hum along running real things: backups, media, home automation. The D&D server is a guest — the smallest container in the building — squatting rent-free behind the same enterprise plumbing as everything that actually matters. It didn't earn the datacenter. It just moved in.
Legendary Actions (3/round)
Change Control. Routes "hide some libraries from a dropdown" through a formal gate — with a backup-first policy and a live-probe acceptance bar.
Backup Before Roasting. mongodumps the entire database before adjusting a single subscription list. His snapshots are more durable than the party's 7-HP wizard.
Subtree Reconciliation. Bumps a VERSION, writes a CHANGELOG entry, and cuts a release tag — in order to ship paperwork.
DM's margin noteHe commissioned an AI to roast his five friends' characters, instructed it to take a full backup first, served the results over HTTPS, and asked for the finished insults under version control. He also maintains three technical manuals and a lettered-phase migration plan for a home game of five. The call, as ever, is coming from inside the statblock.
Threat To his own weekends. The party is safe; the homelab is not. Filed by the DM, at the DM's request, with the DM's own credentials.
